Project ELIKYA

Obiang interprets in Lingala.
She helps people understand one another.
She engages in peacebuilding.
She writes about transformation.
And currently she serves on the board of a community initiative called Project ELIKYA.

Elikya means “hope” in Lingala, a Bantu language widely spoken in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of the Congo.

Project ELIKYA is a culturally responsive initiative dedicated to promoting healthy relationships, emotional and mental well-being, family harmony, and collaborative decision-making within the African immigrant community in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area. By creating spaces for dialogue, education, and mutual support, the project seeks to strengthen families and foster healthier, more resilient communities.

As a member of the Board of Directors, Obiang supports the strategic vision and community engagement efforts of Project ELIKYA. Her role includes contributing to conversations around conflict resolution, communication, advocacy, and culturally grounded approaches that help individuals and families navigate challenges while strengthening social cohesion.
